Music that helps pregnant women sleep!

We found out about 3 weeks ago that I am about 60 days pregnant. This will be my first child. Both my husband and I are thrilled! However I haven’t been able to sleep at ALL since finding out as there is so much to think about – doctors, vitamins, decorating, childproofing, buying things the baby will need, how are we pay for this – what do I do about my job? Go back to work after the baby is born, if so, who will watch the baby… be at stay at home? Etc etc.. I used to take a sleeping pill or have a glass of wine to get to sleep but can’t do that any longer. So, I set out on a journey to find some natural methods to de-stress so that I can rest and nurture a healthy baby.

A mother of 3 told me about a meditational chant CD that she swears by. I bought it online and tried it and I am now sleeping like a baby (no pun intended ha ha). ABSOLUTELY FELT THE NEED TO SHARE THIS WITH OTHER PREGNANT WOMEN!!!!

Here’s what the website says about it (and its honestly so TRUE!).
“A collection of chants and mantras specially selected to help carry a healthy and absolutely vital pregnancy. By bringing the emotions under control through changes in the brainwave pattern, both in the morning and evening, expectant mothers are relived of stress, in turn creating a nurturing environment for the fetus”

You can check it out here, and if you register, then you get other free downloads too (they have a whole lot of destressing really cool mind/body/spirit stuff on their site).

Kenny Garret- Amazing Jazz Artist

Kenny Garrett is killin’! Kenny’s live show has begged for a recording for years. The band seems to always be in flux but whomever is behind
him is always blowing. Pharoah Sanders joins Kenny from this live show recording at the Iridium in Manhattan.

On this new live release, “Sketches of MD”, in addition to Sanders, Garrett is joined on stage by Nat Reeves on bass, Benito Gonzalez on keys and Jamire Williams on drums. GEEZ when I’m listening to the CD – I’m kickin’ myself for not having been there – it must’ve been even more amazing LIVE! (But hey, its a great live recording that’s pretty close to actually being there – the quality is great…so I guess I outta get over it &be happy for the CD release!)

Perfect Christmas Gift!!

I found this AMAZING gift idea for yoga moms!! It’s a gift bag that includes a great CD called “Mantras for my Children and Yours” (it includes English translations) plus 108 count chanting beads wrapped in a beautiful green organza gift bag with crystals, free shipping & no Sales Tax (except for Texas residents). I can’t believe I stumbled across this on her website after my yoga instructor turned me on to her CD (which is great because it incorporates a little bit of hip-hop into the beautiful chants). Separately all the items would cost about $30, but you can get it on MantraMom’s site for about half that. Go here to check it out or buy it: http://www.mantramom.com/purchase-chanting-for-children-cd/

Traveling to New York in Style with Tips from Travel with Carnet

If you’re planning a trip to New York, be prepared to be overwhelmed with the amount of sites that offer travel advice. After all I only had 5 days there and I had already invested more than that trying to decide what my best itinerary would be. And what was I gonna do? Carry around a binder with divider tabs as to options I picked out? And then go to google to map them just to find out I could never cover that much ground in 5 days? I was getting really frustrated.

Then, I stumbled upon a site TravelWithCarnet.com that has it all, and maps it all for you – even if you want to (ie) find a hotel that’s within walking distance the shopping district or the restaurant row you plan to indulge in.

Pick your favorites, the site will map them out and you can print it, or you can send the info to your smart phone and away you go!

Armed with a crisp new sound, alternative rock band The Rift drops new EP

If you like bands like Bullet for My Valentine, Alter Bridge, or Story of The Year then you will definitely like The Rift. Armed with a crisp new sound, alternative hard rock band The Rift packs a punch with their self titled EP debut. These melodies will no doubt have you singing along and wanting more.

Although The Rift has only been together for two years, they share great chemistry on stage having made them a quite popular live band.   They have earned a reputation that has allowed them  to share the stage with bands such as: The Misfits, Exodus, Yngwie Malmsteen and Midnight Theory.

When asked, lead singer Aris Anagnos states his personal musical influences are the likes of Led Zeppelin, Metallica, 30 Seconds to Mars and Atreyu. Most of the other band members state their influences are almost identical, making the band very consistent and well suited for the alternative/hard rock music that they play. Other members of the band include Tyler Holsclaw, Matt Melamed, Tesh Hatharasinghe, and John Anagnos.

The Museum of Modern Art offers New York restaurants almost as indulgent as its art

In a Moveable Feast, Hemingway wrote about the discipline of hunger. While touring the Luxembourg Museum in Paris he preferred to admire Cézanne’s work “belly empty”.The young author explained that when hungry “all the paintings were sharpened and clearer andmore beautiful”. Just like their sophisticated travelers, Carnet also strives to get the most out of our museum visits. However, while we are frequenting the impressive museums of New York, we recommend avoiding hunger for too long and definitely not viewing Wayne Thiebaud’s “Boston Cremes” at MoMA on an empty stomach. To ensure our readers delight, Carnet has spotlighted some of the best museum restaurants, cafés and bars.

The Modern at MoMa is must for all gourmands! Chef Gabriel Kreuther creates a dynamic blend of French and American contemporary cuisine—combining offal and seafood dishes. Foodies must try the Loup de Mer Soufflé and The Long Island Duck Foie Gras Ravioli. Seasonal tasting menus are available and reflect Kreuther’s Alsatian roots.

The Bar Room—perfect for a light meal—especially lunch, has over 30 savory dishes served as small and large plates. A hand-selected international wine list features more than 900 selections, including wines by-the-glass and savory cocktails. For dedicated vinters, there are sumptuous desserts (try the Lemon Napoleon or Warm Fig Tart in a Balsamic Reduction with Olive Oil Ice Cream) are made by pastry chef Marc Aumont.

Visit TravelWithCarnet.com for more great restaurants in New York.

Beaujolais Nouveau The Once a Year French Wine Hits Stores on November 15th

Beaujolais Nouveau

Coming from the thousands of vineyards of the Beaujolais region, south of Burgundy, on the third Thursday of November, at precisely 12:01 am, some six or eight weeks after the Vendanges, the Beaujolais of the year is ready to be opened (French law forbids it from being done two minutes before, but allows the Beaujolais to be shipped well in advance).

Perhaps you didn’t know that the practice of creating Beaujolais Nouveau starts with the growers picking the grapes at their minimum ripeness. Furthermore, sugar is added to enhance the alcohol levels of the wine, a rare guilty pleasure. Also known as the process of whole berry fermentation, Beaujolais wines are produced by the technique of semi-carbonic maceration. After a short procedure of as little as four days, the overpowering taste of berries within the wine is ready to be enjoyed.

Unfortunately in the late 90’s, the Beaujolais Nouveau was tainted by critics being labeled as a “tutti-frutti, banana bubble gum scented, headache inducing beverage”. Regardless, Beaujolais winemakers have been trying to recover their reputation; exporting nearly half of the 65 million bottles of Beaujolais Nouveau that are produced each year to markets including Japan, Germany and the U.S. And what you do not sell, you cannot keep.

Reason has prevailed over greed and the Beaujolais Nouveau of the last ten years has been a delightful vins de soif, with an incredible 2000 vintage that made it almost a vin de garde.

Take the Sommelier challenge, and test your knowledge about this very special once a year wine perfect for the holidays here
